Lyon has known an important growth during the XIXth century and one of the new institutions formed on the post-revolutionary period, the HCL – Hospices Civils de Lyon, was not only responsible for the local health care, but was also a main land owner on the left banks of the river Rhône. On this mostly rural area in the beginning of the XIXth century, a series of new settlements is planned and carried out. In order to follow and participate in the planning of what would become Lyon’s most dynamic new quarters, the HCL hire Laurent Dignoscyo in 1837 to control and make new plans for all the land owned by the institution.

Lyon a connu une croissance importante au cours du XIXe siècle et l'une des nouvelles institutions formées pendant la période post-révolutionnaire, les HCL - Hospices Civils de Lyon, était non seulement responsable de la santé publique, mais était également un important propriétaire foncier sur les rives gauches du Rhône. Au début du XIXe siècle, dans cette région essentiellement rurale, une série de nouveaux établissements est planifiée et réalisée. Afin de suivre et de participer à la planification de ce qui allait devenir les nouveaux quartiers les plus dynamiques de Lyon, les HCL engagent Laurent Dignoscyo en 1837 pour contrôler et faire de nouveaux plans pour tous les terrains appartenant à l'institution.
